Capital Campaign 2005-2007
After 27 years of serving Oregonians, Northwest Family Services will now have a Center allowing us to further expand our outreach programs. In 2006, NWFS reached over 35,000 youth with important saving and life-changing messages. Our programs help youth make healthful choices and avoid risky behaviors such as early sexual involvement, drug and alcohol use, and gangs and violence.
The Community Center will allow us to continue reaching out. Please consider supporting our youth, families, and the community by making a pledge to the Capital Campaign. In January 2005, Northwest Family Services announced its Capital Campaign with the theme Building Healthy Futures. The Campaign goal is $1,500,000 to raise funds for a new, permanent Youth and Family Community Center in Portland on the corner of S.E. King Road and Linwood. The Center will provide a place for youth programs and activities, rehearsals, classes, training and support for adults working with youth, and increased outreach capacity.
Because of the efforts of organizations such as NWFS, the teen pregnancy rate has dropped to a 30-year low, and teen sexual activity has decreased as well. Yet, it is clear that our services are needed…now more than ever. The declining teen birthrate won’t mean anything to the boys and girls who turn 13 and 14 this year, unless we have the chance to teach them what we’ve been teaching their older peers: that they can have self-respect, develop self-control, and grow up to be happy, successful, and well-adjusted adults.
