NWFS has again been voted one of Oregon's top 100 best Nonprofits to work for. This is the third year in a row we have earned this award! We couldn't do this without the support from our excellent staff. They are the ones who make our organization excellent! Thank you to them.

Counseling

NWFS offers a variety of counseling services in Portland. These include individual, couples counseling, as well as marriage and family counseling. Our counseling program offers educational seminars and classes on topics of interest (for example, depression, anxiety, grief, body image, parenting, and communication skills) to the Portland area.

Role of Counseling

Effective counseling provides education, support and a safe place to explore concerns. It can help clients deal with conflict and stress by clarifying issues, exploring feelings and examining relationships. Authentic counseling encourages people to become accountable for their choices and behaviors, and to be responsible to others in their lives. The insights gained in therapy should help them achieve more peaceful and fulfilling lives by honestly facing their own situations and committing to the work of change that may be required.

Core Values
Our Portland area counseling service takes into account both the value system of the client and the therapist in respectful ways. Our counseling philosophy is based on the following core principles:

  • The inherent worth and capacity of each human person
  • The acceptance of the client as unique
  • The belief in the client’s ability to change and grow
  • The client’s self-determination

We hold:

  • A consistent ethic of life from conception to natural death
  • Respect for the dignity of marriage and support for families
  • The unique role of relationships in promoting personal growth

Fees
Our counseling staff accept many insurance programs and offer a sliding fee schedule for persons who may need financial consideration.

Our main office is located at 6200 SE King Road, Portland, Oregon 97222.
